Charles Argoff, MD, from the Albany Medical Center, in Albany, NY, talks about how neuropathic pain presents in patients along with its key symptoms and characteristics which clinicians should watch for.

Dr. Argoff says neuropathic pain often presents with spontaneous pain that isn’t prompted by anything as well as pain that can be evoked from experiences that are normally not painful. He gives the example of a patient experiencing numbness and burning sensation of the feet at the same time.

Dr. Argoff says patients may tell their doctors about experiencing bizarre feelings that may not make sense because their nervous system is not making any sense.
